[The following letter was written in September 2002 by Dean Percy in prepartion for the
the production of the LAW SHOW 2003, which took place on January 17-18, 2003.]
I am pleased to have been asked by the Law Show Committee, a student organization in our
faculty, to help support fund raising efforts for the Law Show 2003. As you
may know the Law Show Committee puts on a variety show every January to raise money for various
charities. The committee has raised over $66,000.00 so far and this year they are aiming
to raise $20,000.00 in support of KARA, an organization dedicated to helping underprivileged children and families.
For the past 8 years this student organization through hard work
and initiative, has staged a professional calibre show suitable for all ages
as a means to raise money for various charities. I am absolutely amazed at the level of talent exhibited and the professionalism
displayed in the organization of this production.
Moreover the students involved in the production are doing this in their own free time apart from their studies The effort expended in preparing this production is a credit to their good will , committment and hard work. This year's show will be no exception.
Law Show 2003 is being produced by Nadia Coco, a 3rd year law student. Nadia indicates that the majority of money raised by the show is accomplished by ticket sales and proceeds from the Silent Auction held to the night of the last performance, however, there are substantial production costs that must be covered prior to the receipt of ticket and auction revenue.
Herein lies the reason for the committee's request for donations in the accompanying letter.
I understand that every donor will receive reserved seats for the friday or saturday night performance, and special recognition. as a corporate sponsor in the program.
Money raised will be used to cover theatre and production costs. While this endeavor will first and foremost benefit KARA , it also supports the law students
who have dedicated their time and efforts for the cause.
